18 Jan 2023 Shirlee Howe - Basic Education and Literacy Month Jan 18, 2023 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Shirlee Howe is the Montgomery and Chester County Coordinator for Children First. She will be discussing the lastest legislation for education reform in Pennsylvania. More information can be found at childrenfirstpa.org. Shirlee's focus at Children First is to engage the community in expanding high quality educational initiatives in PA. Shirlee will discuss both the early learning and K-12 statewide campaigns Children First leads on and how new, non-traditional stakeholders can help make positive change for kids in PA. She'll discuss the school funding trial debated in Commonwealth Court last year, the Science of Reading legislation and other legislative priorities for the upcoming legislative session in Harrisburg.

08 Mar 2023 Four Way Test Speech Contest - Club Level Mar 08, 2023 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Based on Rotary's Four Way Test : First, is it the truth?, Second, is it fair to all concerned?, Third, will it build good will and better friends?, Fourth is it beneficial to all concerned?, we offer a local speech contest to three local high schools: Valley Forge Baptist Academy, Perkiomen Valley and Methacton. This endeavor is an excellent supplement to many programs you have within your school such as the gifted, college preparatory, speech/debate and theater. Communication and presentation skills are important, now more than ever, and this program gives students the opportunity to enhance their skills, add to their academic resume and win cash prizes. Contest Rationale Promote critical thinking and ethical decision making among high school students Provide a forum for high school students to showcase issues that they care about Allow high school students to practice their public speaking skills Encourage scholarship and academic research Gain exposure to Rotary and the local club among the youth and school personnel
