Subject: Rotary Strike-Out Hunger 2019

Dear Mark,

I would like to invite you and your Club to join Rotary International President Mark Maloney at this year's 35th Annual Strike-Out Hunger Game with Rotarians. It will be on August 15, 2019, at 7:05pm when thePhillies play the Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park.

Rotary Clubs from (6) Districts throughout the Delaware Valley will attend. We raise money for the Rotary International Foundation and collect non-perishable food for distribution to local food banks. And with 1,000 to 2,000 Rotarians attending, the ballpark and TV audiences really notice Rotary - in the stands and on the Phanavision. Plus, all Rotary Clubs attending will be recognized on the Scoreboard.

The Phillies will rebate $10.00 to the RI Foundation for every ticket purchased by Rotarians for the game. (See attached flyer for Seat Level Sections and Ticket Price.) The money will be contributed in the name of your Club and it will receive acknowledgement of the credits from the RI Foundation. The credits can be used for giving Paul Harris Awards. The money may be applied to Annual Giving or PolioPlus, which each Club can decide. When going to PolioPlus, each dollar will be matched 2 to 1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. So, a $10.00 rebate + $20.00 = $30.00 would go to the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Fund. This year we could raise twice as much money and, finally eradicate Polio in 2020.

I hope you will accept this invitation and be part of the thousands of Rotarians being the inspiration this August 15th! If you have any questions about Strike-Out Hunger, or this great Rotarian event, please feel free to call or email me.

Thanks
Marvin Axler

Subject: Area 3 Potato Harvest Volunteer Opportunity 9/22

Hi All,

I just wanted to share an invite to the Area 3 Potato Harvest. Each year we harvest potato to be donated to local food banks. Please share with your area clubs. We'd love to have you join us!

The Potato Project Potato Harvest      Date: Sunday September 22     Time: 1-5pm

Location: 22 Luckenbill Road, Kutztown, PA 19530. This is the Kutztown University farm near their German Heritage Center just off Main Street on the west side of the KU campus.

All are welcome! Invite your family & friends for this rewarding & fun service day! Bring gloves & wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Please RSVP to me by Sept 20. More info below.

We will be picking potatoes to be donated to local food banks. All community members & families are welcome to join us for a fun day volunteering! The Potato Project is volunteers like yourself, coming together to plant, tend, harvest and help provide food to neighbors finding themselves in need.

We will donate these potatoes to the Berks Food Bank to assist food-insecure people in a 5-county area. Please join other District 7430 Rotarians at this location which is at Kutztown University's farm near their German Heritage Center. This is a perfect project for all Rotarians and friends. Those who do not pick can help by:

  1. serving freshly cut French fried potatoes and drink to other volunteers
  2. taking pictures,
  3. assisting with boxes on pallets for others to load
  4. Exchange students, Rotaract and Interact members are invited. Children and grandchildren are welcome too, provided you supervise them with qualified adults. Please share this opportunity with your Interact Club and other friends and let me know how many will participate by September 20, 2019. This is a change of location with better parking than the church field we previously picked.

Please calendar this event today. Bring family, friends, neighbors. The more the merrier. See Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/468136317356142/

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Thanks & have a great day!

We know you have a LOT of choices for 5Ks in the Fall. How about running for a terrific cause – the eradication of one of the most crippling diseases of the last one hundred years? WHY “PURPLE PINKIE?” When vaccinating the children in remote parts of the world, the medical team hands out candy. But kids, being smart, started showing up in line multiple times to get more. So the medical folks began to roll the children's pinkie finger in purple ink to identify those who’d been inoculated. Today, we run with “Purple Pinkies” to show our support of the people needing our help to fight this horrible disease.

Nov 09, 2019

Register at www.rotaryundaynyc.org   Registration fills up fast!

This year the set up is a little different - the focus is on refugees, many aspects of the crisis, and also what Rotarians are doing to help.

Join Rotary leaders, members, and guests in New York City, NY, United States, as we celebrate our longstanding special relationship with the United Nations and recognize People of Action who are devising community-based solutions to the global refugee crisis.

More than 750 participants are expected to attend this year’s Rotary Day at the United Nations. Under the theme of Refugees: Challenging Assumptions, Creating Opportunities, UN officials and humanitarian experts will inspire participants through a series of flash talks, engaging breakouts and plenary speeches.

Hear first-hand experiences of resettled refugees, UN officials, humanitarian actors and individuals creating community-based solutions that empower refugees, leverage their talents, and connect them to opportunities. This event offers expansive opportunities for the public to learn about and support projects in refugee settlements and beyond.
