This four-day event marked the final training and graduation stage for district governors-elect before they step into their roles this coming July.

Mary and Doug Cook recently returned from an inspiring experience at the International Assembly held from February 10–13 at the scenic Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida. This four-day event marked the final training and graduation stage for district governors-elect before they step into their roles this coming July.
A Milestone in Training and Global Connection
For Mary, whose training journey began on July 1, 2023, the assembly was not just a professional milestone but a celebration of international camaraderie. Over 520 soon-to-be-governors from districts around the globe converged to share insights, forge lasting relationships, and prepare for the challenges ahead.
A highlight of this year’s gathering was the introduction of the new Cohort program, designed by Rotary International to deepen connections among participants. Small groups of four to five couples were assembled from diverse regions. In one particularly memorable cohort, representatives hailed from Oregon, Finland, Uruguay, Spain, and Mexico. While not every member was equally active, the enthusiastic participants from Oregon, Finland, and Uruguay took full advantage by meeting each morning for breakfast, even embracing the challenge of using Google Translate to bridge language barriers. The result was a network of invitations to visit each other’s cities and witness Rotary projects in action worldwide—a truly enriching experience that many hope becomes a lasting tradition.
Celebrating Global Culture
Another much-anticipated highlight was cultural night—a vibrant celebration where Rotarians showcased unique artifacts representing the heritage of their hometowns. At the table representing Zones 28 and 32, Doug’s creativity shone through with his handcrafted Lombardi trophy, while many attendees sported Eagles gear to show support for their team during the Super Bowl. The evening was a testament to the unity and playful spirit that Rotary fosters among its members, as cultures mingled and global friendships blossomed.
An Evening of Distinguished Company
The assembly culminated in a memorable dinner where Doug and Mary dined with Sangkoo Yun, nominee for Rotary International President 2026-2027, and his partner, Eunsun. Their engaging conversation and shared experiences underscored the blend of leadership, friendship, and fun that defines the Rotary community. The final night of the assembly was not only a celebration of achievements but also a warm reminder that Rotary truly is fun—#RotaryisFun.
As the event concluded, attendees left with new ideas, stronger connections, and a renewed commitment to serving their communities globally. The International Assembly not only marks the end of a training phase but also signals the beginning of a vibrant chapter in Rotary leadership.
